When should a hot water tank be replaced?.

Having regular maintenance will reduce the build-up of soot which will contribute to the system producing carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a tasteless and odourless gas which is extremely toxic to the human body if too much is being inhaled.

Installation or replacement cost of a hot water tank varies base on the size and difficulty of installation. Most tanks are generally quickly installed because of swapping out the same size tank. However, some cases may require material in order to retrofit the tank. Cost to install hot water tank including gas permit can range from $1400 to $2500 depending on size, model and efficiency.

How long will a hot water tank last?.

Most hot water tanks generally last 10 to 15 years with customers replacing them 10 to 12 years. It is highly recommended to have your hot water tanks install inside a drain pan. This can help to prevent your home from being flooded in the event of a water leak.

How do I know a hot water tank is properly installed?.

The following should be done to determine proper installation:

  • Hot water tanks should be installed level, especially gas-operated tanks.
  • An unleveled gas hot water tank installation can cause your tank to be heated unevenly.
  • Electric hot water tank power wire should be properly sized.
  • The temperature-pressure relief valve should be piped as close to the floor as possible.
