Heat pump rebates

New Heat Pump Rebates for Electric Multi-Unit Residential Buildings

Residents of electric-heated multi-unit buildings in British Columbia can now take advantage of new rebate offers for upgrading to energy-efficient heat pumps. As of July 15, 2025, both BC Hydro and CleanBC have launched programs to support owners and tenants in condos, apartments, and stacked townhomes. These programs aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cut energy bills, and make clean energy upgrades more accessible.

Two Rebate Offers: What’s Available?

There are two separate rebate programs available. While they share many similarities, each has its own eligibility criteria, funding levels, and application process:

What Both Programs Offer

  • Support for replacing electric baseboards or other electric resistance heating
  • Rebates for:
    • Ductless mini-split and multi-split heat pumps
    • In-suite heat pump water heaters
  • Require installation by a contractor from the Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN)
  • Require pre-approval before installation
  • Apply only to in-suite systems, not central building systems
  • Strata or landlord approval may be needed
